Monastic

You were a nun, monk, or other monastic committed to a convent, monastery, or abbey. You have fled under life-changing circumstances.

  • Rations (3 uses)
  • Torches (3 uses)
  • Quarterstaff (d6)
  • Prayer beads (petty)
  • Hollowed out prayer book

Why did you join?

  1. To avoid an unwelcome marriage. Take a treasure trove of courting gifts (a chest (bulky) containing 200sp worth of brooches, necklaces, and rings).
  2. Denied a lofty inheritance as a late-born child and sent away. Take a scroll of pedigree (petty) and a scroll of portable mansion (petty).
  3. Caught practicing witchcraft. Take a wyrm-skin journal (grimoire, bulky) with Righting (spell, petty): Rights and tidies {dice}-sized objects in a space. 1 die: 1 slot; 2: Bulky; 3: Person-sized.
  4. Exorcised, but it didn’t quite take. While you wear your talisman (petty), the demon cannot control you. It offers helpful advice and warnings telepathically when consulted. Make a CTRL save to consult it more than 1/day. On a failure, the demon takes over for a moment. Demons see you as one of them.
  5. Witnessed a statue of St. Woewarble weeping blood. Take a vial of the wept blood (10 uses): Anoint a dead person to grant them speech. Take a Fatigue per question asked of them.
  6. Left on the doorstep as a baby. Take a hymn book (grimoire, bulky), filled with songs Detect Magic (spell, petty). You can read and speak Liturgic.

How and why did you escape?

  1. You witnessed the Church Fathers summoning a demon. It did not go well. Take Treatise on Demon Summoning and chalk (petty).
  2. Torgrim Skull-Splitter and his raiders ravaged your community. Take 2 throwing axes (d6+d6, bulky) wrapped in a shroud (1 charge). The shroud removes rust from any weapon. Recharge: Soak in blood.
  3. You conspired with someone on the outside to steal a relic. You kept the relic, betraying their trust. Take the seven-fingered Hand of St. Eustace (7 uses). Push down a finger to turn away an undead creature.
  4. You were accused of a series of murders. Take a Regulator’s stolen long sword (bulky, d10), bearing Regulator insignia.
  5. You and your friends faked a series of possessions. When a Church Father was blamed and subsequently executed, you fled in shame. Take hallucinogenic mushrooms (3 uses): Causes an hour-long trance, leaves the user deprived.
  6. While returning a reliquary, you stepped through an impossible door. No one has ever heard of your abbey. Take the reliquary (bulky, worth 50sp) containing the Eye of St. Wilhelmina (petty, 3 uses): Pointing the pupil at something or someone causes it to disappear, unable to interact with anything for about 10 minutes.
